  • LEHI (Deseret News) — City leaders in Lehi, Draper and Highland are fighting a land war, each city wanting computer giant Micron Technology Inc. to annex property into its respective city.

    The 158 acres in question are split into two island-like pieces of unincorporated Utah County and are surrounded by Draper to the north, Highland to the east and Lehi to the west and south.

  • LEHI (Daily Herald) -- In one corner of Lehi on Wednesday, two huge cranes lifted 80-ton bridge segments into place on Mill Pond road as part of the Pioneer Crossing project. In another, reconstruction of state Route 92 is under way.

    In the west, there's Mountain View's 2100 North project tying in Redwood Road with an east-west corridor to Interstate 15. In the east, there's the installation of electronic tolling for the expressway at Lehi's Main Street I-15 interchange. Through the middle is the I-15 corridor expansion.

  • (Daily Herald) A track hoe driven by Gary Lancaster, of Lehi, tears down the old police and fire station in Springville on Monday.

    "There's been a lot of firemen come up and ask for a few things out of there," B.D. Jones Construction owner Brad Jones said. "I tell them, 'Go ahead, you guys got a lot of memories in there.' "

  • LEHI (Daily Herald) -- If you thought Main Street traffic was bad in Lehi, wait until late June. At that time, east-west traffic in Lehi along 700 South will be funneled onto Main Street to enable UDOT workers to complete a tiny north north-south leg at 850 East for the Pioneer Crossing project.

    Construction work on the new east-west corridor buzzes both east and west of a three-block section in south Lehi that is quiet because of right-of-way purchase delays along Mill Pond Road and 850 East. Those delays have halted most work there.

  • (Daily Herald) With the Pole Canyon annexation and plans for more than 9,000 homes approved in Eagle Mountain on Tuesday, one mayor has expressed some concern about transportation issues in cities that serve as gateways to Cedar Valley.

    In a Nov. 24 letter, Lehi Mayor Howard Johnson said he was specifically concerned about how to get those residents out to Eagle Mountain. One proposal that has been made to the Mountainland Association of Governments would extend Mountain View Corridor through Cedar Valley to south and west of Nephi.

  • (The Enterprise) Peck Ormsby Construction of Lehi will be the general contractor for the new Karl G. Maeser Academy Charter High School in northern Utah County. Ken Harris Architect will be the project architect, designing the building after Brigham Young University’s Maeser Building. Ground will be broken in December on the $9 million school. Classes will begin in the 2010-11 school year. Peck Ormsby has built almost a dozen charter schools.

    When people in those areas want to escape to I-15, there's only one way out: Lehi Main Street, a one-lane road in each direction that promises stop-and-go traffic at any time of the day, except maybe 3 a.m.

  • LEHI(Deseret News) — Residents can learn more about the Mountain View Corridor project at 2100 North at an open house Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Lehi Legacy Recreation Center, 123 N. Center.

    Brief project presentations will be given at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

    The Mountain View Corridor will run along the western side of Salt Lake and Utah counties — from I-80 to Lehi Main Street. A side project is the creation of 2100 North in Lehi, which will connect Redwood Road to the 1200 West exit of I-15.

  • (Deseret News) Culinary-arts students at the Mountainland Applied Technology Center will soon have more room to spread their dough.

    The class of 100 is cramped in its current space, with students standing back-to-back at their cooking stations. A new campus expansion at Thanksgiving Point will provide enough space for the class to grow, accommodating a growing interest in culinary careers in Utah, Summit and Wasatch counties, which the center serves.

  • LEHI (Daily Herald) -- Lehi City Council members unanimously approved the use of LP Smart Side, an all pre-engineered wood siding, as allowable exterior finishing for homes in planned communities.

    The council later amended the Spring Creek Ranch area plan, permitting the material's use in a platt of homes previously planned with the controversial and now city-approved siding.

    A qualifier was made in use of the product -- that the paint coating have at least a 25-year warranty, something Spring Creek developer Salisbury Homes says it has already done.

  • (The Enterprise) A portion of property taxes in the Lehi area will be deferred so that the monies can be invested in Thanksgiving Park, a 38-acre development owned by Thanksgiving Development. The completed development will contain five buildings totaling approximately 710,000 square feet of commercial and 30,000 square feet of retail. A hotel is also in the preliminary plans. A Class A office building is already complete and measures 140,000 square feet. The building houses Vucci, Agel, Sorenson Capital, Propay and Private Capital Group.

  • (The Enterprise) The Barlow Arts Conservatory has opened a new, 5,000-square-foot dance and theater institution at 261 S. 1350 East in Lehi. The building will house two 1,400-square-foot studios and one 700-square-foot studio. The facility can accommodate up to 250 students. Professional ballerina Jennifer Hill Barlow owns the institution. The director of the University of Utah’s Utah Ballet, Attila Ficzere, and retired Ballet West principal ballerina, Maggie Wright Tesch, have been hired to teach at the institution.

  • AMERICAN FORK (The Daily Herald) -- A school board vote Tuesday evening decided the fate of a business park in north Lehi.

    Alpine School District board members unanimously approved a 15-percent tax incentive, $2.63 million, for a Thanksgiving Park economic development authority (EDA). ASD assistant superintendent over facilities Rob Smith said the district had the greatest potential to gain revenue from the project in property taxes.

  • Great Basin Engineering received approval to build the Center Pointe Retail development at 1300 E. SR-92 in Lehi. The development will be a three-unit strip mall near Smith’s in Lehi. One building will be 9,176 square feet, with the other two each built at 6,642 square feet. Raddon Development will be building the development.

  • Mountainland Applied Technology College plans to build an $18 million building on 18 acres in Lehi. This will be the fourth MATC, with the three campuses located in American Fork, Orem and Spanish Fork. The finished building will be 75,000 square feet. The land for the new school was purchased in 2006 for $2.3 million — $1.2 million of which was allocated by the legislature. The legislature approved the funding earlier this year using monies from President Barak Obama’s stimulus package.
  • LEHI (DESERET NEWS)  — One small step for Utah Transit Authority, one giant leap toward easing transportation congestion along the Wasatch Front.

    Monday afternoon, UTA crews showed off their newest mile-long rail addition near the future Lehi station on the FrontRunner South line, which will eventually run from Salt Lake City to Provo.

    The 45-mile commuter rail line, which parallels the Union Pacific tracks through the two counties, is slated for completion no later than 2015.

  • Lehi City Planning Commission approved site plans for a two-story professional office building at 3400 N. 1200 West in an existing business park zone. Ralph Woodward is the property owner. It is unknown if a developer has been acquired for the construction of the 4,200-square-foot building.

  • The concept plan for the Dry Creek Structures Business Park in Lehi was approved. The park, located at 1000 S. 850 East on 9.3 acres, will be home to a truck stop and outdoor storage facility. Bryce Wadsworth is the developer.
