Providence

  • (Herald Journal) Providence officials say they’re excited by design ideas Utah State University landscape architecture and environmental planning students presented Thursday after completing an intensive study of the community last month.

Councilmember Dave Low said he could see the city implementing some of the concepts, which included developing a mixed-use zone and boosting walkability.

  • (Herald Journal) Providence has always been a bedroom community for Logan, but in recent years it’s become almost an extension of its larger neighbor.

Commercial districts in the two towns blend together seamlessly along State Road 165. Even the “Welcome to Providence” sign is somewhat hidden.

“It’s kind of an invisible city,” said David Bell, an associate professor at Utah State University in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning.

Bell is leading a group of students who hope to change this.
