Christian Heritage School to close

RIVERDALE -- The school motto is "Educating for Eternity," but Christian Heritage School will close its doors at the end of the current school year.
Jeff Caturia, chairman of the school's board of directors, blames the closure on a difficult economy and decreased enrollment.

Quake in Japan stirs fear in Utah

FARMINGTON -- Since the massive Japanese earthquake hit earlier this month, Ellis Bruch's phone has done a lot of ringing.Bruch, who works as the Davis County Sheriff's Office emergency services coordinator, said he has been inundated with earthquake-related calls since the quake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11.

Wangsgard's attorney awaits paperwork for second fraud trial

FARMINGTON -- A judge ordered the state attorney general's office to pay the court for transcripts of a bench trial, but so far no payment has been made.
Judge David M. Connors ruled in October 2010 that the attorney general's office would pay for copies of the transcript of a bench trial held in September for Jeffery Q. Wangsgard, of Morgan. His public defender had requested the transcripts and said prosecutors should pay the cost because it is "discovery" material for the upcoming trial.

Stephenson to run for mayor of Ogden

OGDEN -- Brandon Stephenson has announced he will run for mayor of Ogden.
In November, Stephenson announced he would not be seeking a third term as a council member representing the 2nd municipal ward. He will be running against Johnny Ballard, the city's community development manager, this November.

Bountiful OKs hybrid development

BOUNTIFUL -- The city council has given the green light to a hybrid development of 22 townhomes and 48 garden apartments, on 4.2 acres of property immediately north of the city cemetery.
The city council unanimously granted preliminary approval of the Huntington Apartments and Townhomes multifamily site plan at approximately 1995 S. Main St. and 1990 South.

Official: Farmington budget shouldn't depend on Station Park revenue

FARMINGTON -- Don't count your sales tax before the stores even open.
That seems to be the budget message from City Manager Dave Millheim for the 2011-12 fiscal year, even as the city is prepared to see the first phases of the $250 million Station Park development project begin this year.
