PIN scam at Michaels lays bare debit card risks

Debit cards have grown in popularity as a convenient substitute for cash, but more and more consumers are discovering the dangers in using cards connected to their checking accounts.
Just this month, arts and crafts chain Michaels acknowledged that scammers tampered with PIN pads in more than 80 of its stores in 20 states, stealing PIN numbers from customers who had used a debit card to pay for purchases. The crooks then used the debit card numbers and PIN information to withdraw cash from ATMs....
