SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox announced Tuesday morning that he's making a run for governor in 2020.

Cox gave the announcement via Twitter, and it read that he and wife Abby Cox "want you to know first. It's time. We've decided to run for Governor — and we cant do it without you!"

Cox was sworn in as lieutenant governor in 2013. Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is in his second four-year term as governor but assumed office in 2009 after then-Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. resigned to become U.S. ambassador to China.
