10th West revisited: UDOT to host another open house for Cache project
(Herald Journal) A road project that designers hope will help unclog central Logan and get vehicles from one end of the city the other faster is due for a public unveiling. Again.
The state Department of Transportation will host an open house and public hearing regarding the planned widening of 1000 West from U.S. Hwy. 89/91 to 2500 North on March 23. The state first presented the project in July 2009, but since then the agency has had to carry out additional environmental studies. There have been no major changes to the plan since last summer, but UDOT will host another open house anyway to show residents what's planned and to take comments, said agency spokesman Vic Saunders.
The estimated $62 million job will widen 1000 West from two lanes to five lanes. If all goes according to plan, work will start late this year or early next year where 1000 West crosses the Logan River. After that, work will move north to the Woodruff Elementary School area, Saunders said. Once construction starts, the job should be finished in 18 months.
To make room for the 124-foot wide road, UDOT plans to buy 17 homes.
