American Fork store may close when new liquor store opens in PG
(Daily Herald) Across the street and a little north of the post office in American Fork, Elaine Tomlinson may be found sweeping the street in front of the Utah State Liquor Agency or carrying packages to a customer's car, chatting along the way.
The agency may be closing in the next month or two, when a new state liquor store opens in Pleasant Grove.
Tomlinson is naturally concerned -- about her customers, her employees and her own employment. She said state officials have said she could continue working -- at the new store -- but has to fill out an application like everyone else. Despite her years of experience, she is worried she may lose seniority to official state employees. The American Fork agency is not owned by the state, but is rather a "package store," run privately with state merchandise.
"I would have to put in a resumé and application," she said. "I would have no seniority because I don't work at a state store."
