Bank of Utah and Utah Association of CPAs Sponsor Seminar to Help Local Businesses Avoid Pitfalls of Mis-financing and Plan for Growth
OGDEN – Bank of Utah is bringing back a popular seminar, “Moving Your Business Forward in Turbulent Economic Times,” featuring Kyle Enger, June 17-18. The two-day course, held at the Weber State University Davis Campus in Layton, provides tools to help business owners and operators make smart financial decisions in order to grow.
Kyle Enger of Pacific Coast Banking School, University of Washington, is a nationally recognized expert on financial management for small businesses. Enger, owner of a closely-held business and a former bank vice president, is a founding partner and principal of Business and Banking Institute, BBI Financial LLC, a corporate advisory firm headquartered in Bellevue, Washington. Enger and his team work with closely-held companies in the area of financial management, valuation and preparation for sale.
“We’ve teamed up with the Utah Association of CPAs (UACPA), the Davis Chamber of Commerce and Weber State in bringing back the dynamic Kyle Enger a third time to educate our business community,” said Scott Parkinson, senior vice president of retail banking for Bank of Utah. “Whether you’re a seasoned CPA, a local business owner, or a Weber State University business student, this seminar will teach you valuable business principles that you will refer to over and over again.”
“The UACPA encourages its members to attend and earn 16 CPE credits,” said Carey D. Woolsey, UACPA president. “CPAs may want to bring along some of their clients because the seminar is very hands on. Business owners will have an opportunity to actually map out their own financials, analyze their financial position, identify existing or potential problems, and determine their best course of action in moving forward.”
Business owners, managers, controllers, financial advisors and anyone involved in company cash management will be guided through a turn-key financial management process, working out how to increase their own profitability through:
- Strategies for increasing the bottom line
- Financing a business and working with bankers
- Properly forecasting/growth strategies
- Cost cutting while sustaining morale and focus
- Using financial statements effectively
- Building transferrable value during a recession
- Corporate deleveraging
“The Davis Chamber got behind this event because we know that small businesses are the backbone of our community, and helping them succeed will help our community grow as well,” said Jim Smith, president and CEO of the Davis Chamber of Commerce. “Kyle Enger is an amazing presenter and brings a wealth of experience and energy with him. Our members would be wise to tap into this opportunity.”
Lewis Gale, Dean of John B Goddard School of Business and Economics added, “We have arranged for Weber State University business students to attend this seminar for only $75 in order to make this valuable, real-world information affordable and accessible to our students. Anyone who has aspirations to work in the business world should attend.”
“Moving Your Business Forward in Turbulent Economic Times,” will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 17-18 in Layton at the Weber State University Davis Campus, 2750 N. University Park Blvd. The cost is $349 for the first registrant from a company, and $299 for additional names. Weber State University business and MBA students pay only $75 to attend. Registration includes breakfast, lunch and materials for both days. Seating is limited. Register at www.bankofutah.com/seminar or call 801-409-5172.
