BOMA Utah travels to Capitol Hill to educate Congress on commercial real estate
Washington, DC (BOMA Utah) -- The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Utah journeyed to Capitol Hill today to personally educate their U.S. Senators and Representatives on behalf of commercial real estate.
Kent Gibson and Dave Wright of Property Reserve, Inc.; Todd Mabey and Mel Pearson of Zions Securities LLC and Shelli Menegos of BOMA Utah joined fellow members from local BOMA associations across the United States to collectively express the need to extend the 15% capital gains tax rate; 15-year depreciation period for tenant improvements; enact important incentives to promote energy efficiency, and discuss the taxation of services that affect all of Utah. These members of BOMA Utah visited Washington, DC, as participants in the 2010 National Issues Conference, hosted by BOMA International. The conference allows property owners and managers to analyze and discuss issues, hear presentations by members of Congress and the press, and actively support their profession by visiting Congressional offices for one-on-one meetings with their elected officials.
The delegation of five (5) BOMA members from Utah was led by its President-Elect, Todd Mabey of Zions Securities, LLC. Over the course of a day, the delegation visited the offices of Senator Bennett, Senator Hatch, Representative Bishop, Representative Chaffetz and Representative Matteson to inform their elected officials about real estate’s concerns. As stated by BOMA Utah’s President-Elect. “Our visit to Capitol Hill is the best opportunity for BOMA Utah and real estate to speak out forcefully about the issues that are of greatest concern to our industry.”
The Building Owners and Managers Association of Utah is an organization composed of 135 commercial real estate professionals whose members own or manage over 25 million square feet of downtown and suburban commercial properties and facilities in Utah. The membership collectively represents all facets of the commercial real estate industry. For more information, visit BOMA Utah's Home Page at www.BOMAUtah.org.
