Bonneville Research, Daggett County, Dutch John Advisory Committee working on economic plan
(Bonneville Research) Unless you grew up in Vernal or fly fish you probably have never heard of Dutch John.
Located in the mountainous landscape of northeastern Utah. Dutch John is home to the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, the Flaming Gorge Scenic Byway, the Ashley National Forest and lands of the Bureau of Land Management.
Dutch John is a recreation and scenic paradise with beautiful red rock canyons, lakes, rivers and forests.
The town was platted and constructed beginning in 1957 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation to house workers working on the construction of Flaming Gorge Dam. After the Dam's completion in 1964, the Dutch John townsite and its buildings continued to be owned by the Bureau of Reclamation until 1998, when the town was privatized.
Buildings were sold to individual landowners, and undeveloped land in the town was transferred to Daggett County. Today, the town's year-round population is about 150, most of whom work at the dam or are involved in recreation.
Bonneville Research is working with Daggett County and the Dutch John Advisory Committee to develop and implement a General and Economic Development Plan.
