Brent Brown closing Orem collision center, used car lot

(Daily Herald) The Brent Brown Automotive Group is closing a 4-acre used car lot and collision center on 690 S. State St. in Orem in a move to cut operations costs amid slower sales and a still-soft economy.

The seven-year-old operation, which has about 20 workers, will close on Feb. 1, said Brent Brown, founder and owner of Brent Brown Automotive, who announced the move to his employees earlier this week.

"The move will save us money. The savings will be significant, substantial," he said Friday, declining to specify the amount. The company now has 300 employees, down from 400 two years ago, after implementing several downsizing moves as auto sales slowed in the face of a deepening recession.

Brown said he hasn't determined the number of layoffs yet, but said those will likely be minimal. Most of the Orem collision center and used sales workers will be transferred to his other nine dealerships, where they will continue to have the same job responsibilities.

He said he wants to consolidate the majority of his operations into one location at the Brent Brown Auto Mall in Provo for a "better marketing opportunity."
