Bridge meeting addresses public's concerns
SARATOGA SPRINGS (Daily Herald) -- "The biggest complaint in the Salt Lake Valley is east-west movement," said state Rep. Ken Sumsion, R-American Fork. With the population of Utah County expected to more than double in the next few decades, he wants to avoid having that same transportation problem.
The transportation solution proposed by Utah Crossing, Inc. would be to put a six mile bridge across Utah Lake, connecting 800 North in Orem to just north of Pelican Point in Saratoga Springs. The privately funded bridge has been the subject of much debate in the past few months, both for and against the effort.
Wednesday evening, representatives from the Utah Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands sponsored a public meeting for residents in Saratoga Springs. The division oversees Utah land and waterways, such as Utah Lake, and would be the agency that would have to give approval for such a project to go forward.
