Building the future: Valley schools undergo refits, construction

(Herald Journal) The year is wrapping up for students, but at some valley schools, the work is just beginning.

Because of grade reconfigurations and new elementary school boundaries in Cache County School District, Greenville and Sunrise elementary schools will undergo some structural changes and remodeling this summer. The renovations come as other full construction projects are ongoing in both Smithfield and Nibley for entirely new elementary schools.

Bruce Parker, Cache County School District facilities manager, said preparation for construction has already begun at Greenville Elementary. A hole for the footing of a 10-foot extension of the school's southeast wing has been dug.

Greenville, which is currently a third-, fourth- and fifth-grade school, will add kindergarten, first and second grades next year. Parker said the addition will give two existing classrooms more space and self-contained bathrooms. The two rooms will be kindergarten classrooms, and because of the "nature of the program," they'll need the extra space, he said.
