Center set to make a cool splash

LINDON — With the weather heating up, Lindon officials hope the city's new aquatics center will be the place to cool down.

Construction workers were putting the finishing touches on the center last week in anticipation of Monday's ribbon cutting and next weekend's grand opening.

The Lindon Aquatics Center, located just behind the Lindon City Center at 100 N. State, aims to have a little bit of everything for residents young and old each year from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

"These are typically places where families and younger kids come," said Dan Seder, Lindon parks and recreation director. "The city wanted something for the teenagers as well."

Seder said he hopes the center's 57,000-gallon Flow Rider attraction will draw the teenage crowd. Using a turbine to push gallons of water up an incline at 20 mph to 30 mph, the Flow Rider combines surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and body boarding in one attraction. During training this week, future lifeguards and center employees received hands-on instruction from representatives of Wave Loch, the San Diego-based company that makes the ride.

"A lot of people get on and (they're) out in about five seconds," Seder said, noting the difficulty in mastering the ride. Original Article
