Claim Jumper fetches $5 million
(Park Record) A Salt Lake City attorney entered the lone bid on the Claim Jumper building on Tuesday in a trustee's sale, winning the right to the building for a previously unknown business entity for $5 million.
The business entity is known as CSA 10-573 Main LLC. The entity apparently was recently organized in anticipation of the trustee's sale.
Kim Wilson, the attorney who oversaw the sale, and the person who placed the winning bid, Michael Carlston, left the grounds of the Third District Court together. Carlston left without commenting extensively to reporters.
The relationship between the business entity and the lender, MidFirst Bank, was not immediately clear. Wilson told reporters MidFirst Bank had recently transferred its interest in the building, though.
Carlston, who tape-recorded the proceedings, quickly entered $5 million after Wilson called for bids. Eight other people were gathered around Wilson, some with interest in the building and others apparently there to observe. The others there were largely silent once the $5 million bid was placed. They left quickly afterward.
Carlston did not immediately return a phone message left at his office. The MidFirst Bank official assigned to the Claim Jumper also did not immediately return a phone message after the sale.
