College of Agriculture breaks ground on new building
(Herald Journal) An enthusiastic crowd of roughly 350 people gathered on Utah State University's Quad on Tuesday to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new College of Agriculture building, a project that has been years in the works.
Prominent lawmakers and government officials were in the audience for the short ceremony, including Sen. Lyle Hillyard, R-Logan; Rep. Jim Bird, R-West Jordan; Rep. Kerry Gibson, R-Ogden; Utah Farm Bureau President Leland Hogan, U.S. Department of Agriculture area director Will Blackburn, along with dozens of students and faculty members.
"Many of the people that are directly impacted by this new structure are in today's audience," said Noelle Cockett, dean of the College of Agriculture and vice president for agriculture and extension. "I am sure that they share my great excitement and deep appreciation that this project is now officially beginning."
Work on the 125,000-square-foot facility will start in the coming weeks and should take two years to finish. On May 10, a web cam will be installed on the roof of the USU business building, allowing anyone to track the progress online.
