Construction begins on Oquirrh Park improvements

(Taylorsville/Kearns Journal) Kearns residents will soon have a few new reasons to go to Oquirrh Park. Construction has begun on a new skate park and soccer field, and improvements to Ed Mayne Street and a new parking lot are not far behind.

Local contractor CraCar Construction Company won the construction bid for both the skate park project and the Oquirrh Park Improvement Project. They began tearing up turf for the new soccer field in early September and hired subcontractor California Skate Parks to begin construction on the skate park immediately.

“We are fortunate to have both contractors on this job,” said Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation project manager Walt Gilmore. “We believe they are a good match for the project.”

The skate park will be located on the south side of Ed Mayne Street between two sets of soccer fields. The Oquirrh Park Master Plan also calls for a parking lot to be built adjacent to the park.

The new soccer fields will be located on the hill west of the existing southern baseball diamond. Ed Mayne Street will be extended around the south end of the baseball diamond and lead to a new parking lot between the diamond and the soccer fields.
