Copperview Rec Center holds grand re-opening

(Midvale Journal) The Copperview Recreation Center (8446 Harrison St.) has been referred to as a hidden gem. During the past two years, that gem has been reset and polished into a shining jewel that was unveiled to local dignitaries and an appreciative crowd during the center’s grand re-opening on Sept. 21.

“This center was one of the original facilities constructed for the Salt Lake County Recreation programs, but time had taken its toll,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon in his remarks at the event. “We have invested $4 million from ZAP (Zoo, Arts and Parks) funds to add an 11,000 square-foot full-size high school gym, renovate the existing gym and locker room, double the size of the fitness area, update the administrative offices and install new heating and air-conditioning equipment.”

Midvale Mayor JoAnn Seghini said the facility serves as a community center as well as a recreational venue. “There is something for everyone here – Head Start, a food bank, a health clinic, English/Spanish classes, a youth theater, peer court and programs for persons with disabilities,” she said.
