Draper amphitheater construction resumes

(Deseret News) After years of delays, construction of the Draper amphitheater is under way and should be finished in November or December.

But the first use of the new city-owned structure will have to wait for the return of warm weather next year. Much of the stage and all of the seating for up to 1,300 people is outdoors.

"We just have a built-in natural location for it," said Draper City Manager Layne Long. "It will be a nice place where we can do theatrical productions, movies, concerts, just various outdoor events that we can't do now."

The $1.2 million amphitheater at 14100 S. Vestry Road (970 East) is being built on 6 acres of land donated by the original developer of South Mountain in 1996.
