Eagle Mountain bond may end up on Nov. ballot
EAGLE MOUNTAIN (Daily Herald) -- After hearing from more than two dozen residents at a meeting on Tuesday night and getting even more e-mail, the Eagle Mountain City Council decided to reconsider the date of a bond election to pay for a $7.2 million aquatics center.
Council members approved a motion to rescind the decision to put the bond on the ballot in June and then approved another motion to have an item on the next City Council agenda to move the election to November.
"I received over 50 e-mails. Only three were in favor of a June election," Councilman Ryan Ireland said. "The rest were opposed to it."
Twenty-five residents spoke at the Tuesday night meeting; only eight approved going to the polls on June 22. The Utah Taxpayers Association encouraged residents to come to the public hearing and speak against the June vote.
"Obviously, there is going to be a better turnout in voters coming in November, because that is the month when everyone is geared to doing their research and looking at candidates and that is where their mind-set is," Eagle Mountain resident Jennifer Konold said. "In June, they are on vacation."
