Eagle Mountain residents will vote on rec center in June
(Daily Herald) Eagle Mountain residents will get to vote June 22 on whether they want a $7 million municipal outdoor aquatics center in their city.
Council members OK'd a bond election on Tuesday and started the process necessary to allow voters to decide on a 20-year bond to finance the project. The public hearing date for the outdoor pool is set for April 20.
Councilman Nathan Ochsenhirt was adamant about the need for more facilities.
"I see this as an investment for the future growth for our city," said Ochsenhirt, having earlier argued his case passionately to the council.
"What happened when we built the skate park? Bunch of kids," he said. "What happened when we got the bike park? Bunch of kids. What happens every time we put down a patch of grass? We have got soccer practice, football practice, softball practice, because we got kids coming out our ears and no place to put them."
