Farmington Station Park still on

(Salt Lake Tribune) Station Park is years behind schedule, but Farmington officials insist the big shopping and office-center project planned for land west of town, -- where two freeways, a highway and a commuter rail station meet -- will be built.

"At present, CenterCal Properties, the developer of Station Park, has not clearly indicated the timetable for starting their development," Farmington city manager Max Forbush said.

But CenterCal has purchased 62 acres for its project on the west side of Farmington, at the intersection of Interstate 15, Legacy Parkway, U.S. Highway 89 and a FrontRunner train stop.

The El Centro, Calif.-based developer has also graded the land for roads and parking lots. It has installed utility hookups, a storm system and a sewer system. All told, the company says $10 million has been spent to support the project, expected to cost $250 million by the time it opens.

"They are invested heavily into the project. They've bought the land. They've put in the infrastructure. They are going to be here," Forbush said.

All that apparently remains is for business conditions to improve.

Craig Trottier, vice president of development at CenterCal's office in Farmington, said Station Park was to open in 2010. But about 12 months ago, as the U.S. economy slipped deeper into recession, the developer decided to push back the opening until 2011.
