Golf course construction at The Canyons could begin this summer
(Park Record) Summit County officials said they expect construction to begin this summer on a much-anticipated golf course at The Canyons despite a lawsuit the master association at the resort has filed against Summit County.
On March 31, The Canyons Resort Village Management Association, which helps administer the development agreement at the resort, filed an eight-page complaint against the county and Summit County Manager Bob Jasper.
The lawsuit disputes a timeline Jasper has required for construction of the golf course. Jasper has declared that the Resort Village Management Association, which is comprised of several property owners at the resort, has the principal obligation to build a golf course at The Canyons.
A timeline Jasper laid out in March requires the Resort Village Management Association to complete the golf course by Aug. 1, 2013.
According to deputy Summit County attorney Dave Thomas, the Resort Village Management Association must have a fully operational golf course at The Canyons by September 2013.
"We are hopeful that ground will be broken this summer on construction of the golf course," Thomas said in a telephone interview Tuesday.
Jasper required the Resort Village Management Association to file a plan with the county for financing construction of the golf course.
The legal findings require the Resort Village Management Association to place a $3 million deposit on the construction by June 15, or as specified in an approved financing plan.
