'Green' senior housing project breaks ground in Taylorsville

(Taylorsville/Kearns Journal) As baby boomers approach and settle into their retirement years, the aging population in America is at an all-time high. Keenly aware of future needs, city officials in Taylorsville are being proactive in their planning, and after three and a half years in the making, a new senior center broke ground on Oct. 16 at 4764 S. Plymouth View Drive.

“This project leads the way in energy efficient municipal design and construction, bringing the highest quality, most efficient housing,” said Mayor Russ Wall in a press release.

Using a design standard that meets the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design criterion, the 61-unit affordable housing structure will house seniors over the age of 62. Each unit will rent for 30 percent of the applicant’s income.
