Ground broken for Davis County health building

CLEARFIELD (Davis County Clipper) — “Great things can be accomplished” when working together, said County Commission Chair Bret Millburn, just before ground was turned for the new county health building Tuesday.

Under overcast skies, county officials joined with their counterparts from the City of Clearfield in marking the official construction start. The 45,000 square foot, three story building is being built in downtown Clearfield.

“This will be a building that will not only provide a safe and comfortable environment for our (health department) employees, but a way for citizens to obtain very important services,” said Health Director Lewis Garrett.

Millburn joked that Garrett could’ve condemned the current headquarters building in Farmington years ago.

As was noted, the new facility will combine currently scattered services. In addition, environmental health will be able to vacate its existing building, which will be torn down to make way for the new headquarters library/clerk-auditor election building.

“People will be able to obtain very important services here in less than a year,” Garrett said. Those range from a WIC clinic (Women, Infant & Children), to vital statistics, the Midtown Health & Dental Clinic, environmental health services that range from restaurant inspections to water quality testing.

The Senior Services Division will also be housed there, including administrative offices for Meals-on-Wheels, counselors, and others.
