Groundbreaking for affordable housing held in Midvale
(Midvale Journal) A groundbreaking for Florentine Villas, a $26 million, 214-unit affordable housing apartment project, was held Sept. 29 in Midvale. The 8.58 property, which will include 53 one-bedroom, 108 two-bedroom and 53 three-bedroom apartments, is located at 7500 South 800 West.
The criteria for a family of four to rent the units will be an income less than or equal to $41,000 and all applicants must make equal to or less than 60 percent of the area’s median income.
During lease-off, a one-bedroom apartment will go for $650, a two-bedroom for $755 and a three-bedroom for $899, said Jeff Nielson, chief financial officer for the developer, Wasatch Advantage. The maximum rents will range from $711 for a one-bedroom to $971 for a three-bedroom, he said.
Florentine Villas is the first housing project in Utah to begin construction using funds through the federal stimulus program. The developer for the project, Wasatch Advantage Group, estimates that 400 construction and other related jobs will be created and/or maintained as a result of the development.
