Highland residents petition for wall
(Daily Herald) A group of Highland residents are petitioning the city for a "solid wall" to block the noise of traffic.
A road widening project is scheduled along 4800 West in Highland, and residents are concerned about what the future holds. At a recent meeting, they turned over a petition to the city, along with a list of unanswered questions.
Mayor Lynn Ritchie said the city is working to set up a meeting with the neighborhood.
"We understand that many changes and improvements will be made," said resident Jan McEwan while presenting the petition to elected officials. "Since these changes will adversely change and affect our property, we request a solid wall for the betterment of living conditions."
The residents asked for a meeting with elected officials to get answers to their questions and concerns. They noted that they have not been able to get answers from county officials.
Their questions were basic. Does the county have the money to complete the project? When will construction begin? Will a stoplight be installed? Some homes will be removed, and residents wanted to know if those homes will be salvaged or bulldozed.
