Housing lottery: Dozens expected to enter

(Park Record) City Hall's housing director on Monday said she would be surprised if fewer than 50 people submit their names for an upcoming lottery planned to select buyers for Snow Creek Cottages, the work force housing development under construction off S.R. 224.

The deadline for people to submit their application packets is Friday at 5 p.m. Rhoda Stauffer, who directs the housing programs, said just four applications had been submitted by early in the week. But she added that there has been a significant amount of interest and she expects applications will be submitted at a rapid clip during the week. She said she has received "tons of calls" from people with questions.

"They're filling out applications. That's why they're calling me," Stauffer said.

Stauffer points to the number of people who completed a class designed for someone preparing to purchase a home as an indication of the interest. According to Stauffer, 69 people have taken the course since last fall. Of those, 26 took the class on Feb. 27, the last time the class was offered in Park City before the Friday deadline, Stauffer said. A few more people interested in the Snow Creek Cottages might take the class this week in Provo, she said.

The lottery is scheduled March 26.
