Lehi mayor wants more regional roads after Eagle Mtn. annexation
(Daily Herald) With the Pole Canyon annexation and plans for more than 9,000 homes approved in Eagle Mountain on Tuesday, one mayor has expressed some concern about transportation issues in cities that serve as gateways to Cedar Valley.
In a Nov. 24 letter, Lehi Mayor Howard Johnson said he was specifically concerned about how to get those residents out to Eagle Mountain. One proposal that has been made to the Mountainland Association of Governments would extend Mountain View Corridor through Cedar Valley to south and west of Nephi.
He also talked about not only the currently proposed bridge across Utah Lake from Saratoga Springs to Orem, but a second one on MAG's vision plan that would extend from Spanish Fork across the southern end of Utah Lake.
"In my letter, I told Mayor Jackson, 'Great, go for it'," said Johnson, in reference to the annexation and other development plans that have been discussed. "We just have to take care of the infrastructure so your citizens and ours can enjoy it."
"We just can't have a million and a half people go down Lehi and Santaquin Main streets to get to the world," continued Johnson.
Saratoga Springs Mayor Timothy Parker said he is also in support of development in the area.
