McDonald's comes to Cedar Hills

(Daily Herald) Cedar Hills residents and Lone Peak High School students and staff will have a new place to patronize by the end of 2010 -- a McDonald's restaurant. Lone Peak students only need look out the school's window to whet their appetites, as the new McDonald's will sit across the street directly north of the Chase Bank on 4800 West. For families, it will have the requisite play place and drive through, but in the garb of the Main Street Colonial style of Cedar Hills.

"Through a lot of work, compromise, and back and forth with their architects we have achieved a look that hopefully meets the needs of the McDonald's brand as well as the Cedar Hills Colonial style," Cedar Hills City Councilman Jim Perry said.

McDonald's representatives said they hope to break ground as soon as possible. First they must get a final development agreement through the City Council.

"They are pushing for sometime in the coming weeks rather than months," Perry said.

There have been some rumblings in the city against allowing the construction of another fast food restaurant in Cedar Hills. Many residents have hoped for a sit-down restaurant so they did not have to drive to American Fork.

So far, though, McDonald's is one of the only restaurants seeking approval.

"We welcome business in Cedar Hills and are pleased to see McDonald's choose our community," Perry said. "Everyone has their favorite restaurant, but the role of the city is to review and approve proposals and requests from property owners, and not to hand pick our favorite venue."
