Merchants and patrons react to redevelopment status of Granite Block
(Sugar House Journal) Since the redevelopment of the Granite Block began,, the community of Sugar House has had mixed feelings. The common thread among local merchants is having the feeling the public is not aware they are still open for business.
Sales have significantly dropped for I Kim Co., an urban chic clothing store located just south of the redevelopment site at 2166 South Highland Drive.
“I can tell they tried to make it nice (referring to the new landscaping). It feels safer now that there is no longer a big hole in the lot,” said Young Jeon, an employee of I Kim Co. “It’s been a hard year for us. Sales are down 50 percent and the owner may close this store or relocate out of Sugar House. It’s been very hard to make a profit.”
