Meridian project promises big changes to former Proscenium site
(Sandy Journal) Sandy may soon have a new mixed use development that could include office space, apartment-style living and the Living Planet Aquarium. This new idea is called the Meridian project and will replace plans for the Proscenium project, which would have included a Broadway-style theater. The project was renamed Meridian one of the developers associated with the Proscenium dropped out because of financial problems.
Eleven acres on the corner of Sego Lily and Centennial Parkway near City Hall is the site for this project. Development could start as early as May or June on the first section, a 12-story office and apartment building being developed by architect Russell Platt, who also came up with the Proscenium concept.
"A true mixed use site is beneficial to the community," Platt said. "This site will have everything someone would need to live, work and play it's perfect."
Platt's new company, Plattforms, will be housed in the first building. His company has developed a new way to construct buildings using a concrete and steel composite floor system. Each eight by 40 foot section is a modular pre-cast construction spanning an entire floor, which will speed up the building time considerably.
