Mountain View Corridor causes street closure
(West Jordan Journal) A portion of Wells Park Road at 9500 South will be closed to make way for the Mountain View Corridor.
The city council voted unanimously on Dec. 9 in favor of closing the road.
"I think UDOT will be happy with that and SME will be happy. And the other businesses--we'll see what we can do to help you out," Mayor David Newton said.
Because the Mountain View Corridor will run across Wells Park Road, between Sportsman's Warehouse and SME Steel, the city was left with two alternatives: build a bridge over Wells Park Road for the Mountain View Corridor to cross over the road or close a portion of Wells Park Road.
Closing Wells Park Road allows the Mountain View Corridor to be built closer to the original land grade and with a smaller footprint, allowing local businesses to retain more of their property and not have to relocate.
The closure will impact five driveways owned by SME Steel and Sportsman's Warehouse Distribution Center.
A traffic study determined that the closure won't create any significant traffic impacts but will affect local streets by creating two cul-de-sacs on the west and east sides.
