Murray's assistance program helps first-time homebuyers

(Murray Journal) The Community Development Corporation of Utah has collaborated with the city’s Community Economic Development department to offer a down payment assistance program to homebuyers in Murray.

“There’s been a lot of interest in seeing Murray City offer some assistance,” said Tim Tingey, community and economic development director. “It’s established as a loan program.”

The city appropriated $10,000 for the program, with the possibility of more. Through a federal Community Development Block Grant, the city will offer down payment assistance to eligible homebuyers. Eligibility is determined by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and based upon the household’s income limits, which must be below 80 percent of area median income adjusted for household size. The first-time homebuyers must be U.S. citizens, 18 years or older and want to move within the city limit. Housing is not limited to single-family homes; loans can be acquired for town houses and condominiums.
