New businesses to boost Midvale's economy

(Midvale Journal) Despite the sluggish economy, new businesses are popping up in Midvale. It is anticipated that they will bring more than 850 jobs and much needed sales tax revenue, to the city.

“These companies are not just ordinary businesses, they are leaders in their industry,” said Chris Butte, Midvale’s director of economic development. “Fifty percent of the new jobs will pay employees more than the median salary for Salt Lake County.”

Two of the businesses – WinCo and Tenochtitlan – are grocery stores; something residents on Midvale’s west side have been hoping for a long time.

Tenochtitlan, located at 125 West 7200 South, features a variety of Latino products from Mexico, Central American and South America, as well as mainstream products. The store, which held a grand opening on Sept. 26, also has a bakery that provides fresh baked goods every day and a Cocina (kitchen) restaurant that serves homemade dishes.
