New businesses strengthen Murray's economy
(Murray Journal) Despite the unpredictable economic times, businesses are still flourishing and opening shop in Murray. This summer, over 30 new stores opened their doors to the Murray community.
“A lot of them are small businesses, which should not be overlooked from an economic development perspective,” said Tim Tingey, Murray’s economic development director. “They are a big strength for our community.”
The Mayor’s office attended two ribbon-cutting ceremonies in the last month, one for the CMIT Computers opening by the Sunflower Market, and a renewal for the First Federal Bank. There’s been talk about Fashion Place mall signing tenants for some more stores around the Cheesecake Factory, with rumors of a California Pizza Kitchen, but owners can’t confirm until leases are signed.
“Overall, businesses in Murray had done better than other areas,” said Scott Baker with the Murray Chamber of Commerce. “The city government has been very supportive and we have two very strong anchors, Fashion Place Mall and the Intermountain Medical Center.”
Both the mall and IMC attract related businesses. Since the hospital’s inception, there has been an increase in medical practices, radiology offices, and other medical related businesses. The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital has a new eatery, the Time Out Café, which serves meals to both patients and staff.
