New grant to assist with down payment on new West Valley City homes

(West Valley Journal) Ghost towns are not a thing of the past; there are vacant home developments across the valley due to the drastic downturn of the economy. To help developers and contractors get these properties sold, the Utah Housing Corporation has provided grant money to provide down payment assistance.

The grant has allocated $60,000 to provide 20 individuals with $3,000 for a down payment on a new home in West Valley City.

Redevelopment Director Brent Garlick said the grant is designed to assist low- to moderate-income families, and an application must be filled out to ensure the applicant qualifies as well as to make sure the home lies within the city limits.

“This is a way to benefit the low- to moderate-income folk, as well as a way to stir things up and get these properties occupied so that when the new home inventory is low again the building market can pick up,” Garlick said.
