New Holladay liquor store construction underway

(Cottonwood/Holladay Journal) New construction on the corner of Murray-Holladay Boulevard and Highland Drive may be a welcome sight for some Holladay residents, but not all. The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has begun grading the site for its newest liquor store, which will replace the current location on 2408 Kentucky Avenue.

The project that was supposed to be completed three months ago will break ground during the second week of November and is expected to be completed in May 2010. The state purchased the property two years ago, which formerly housed the Dee’s restaurant.

“It is such a focal corner in Holladay,” said John Freeman, Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control deputy director. “It really should make quite a nice architectural statement with great landscaping.”
