New Orem High close to completion

(Daily Herald) While most schools in the Alpine School District are sitting dormant during this week's spring break, there is one exception. Construction workers are busier than ever this week trying to meet deadlines at the new Orem High School building.

"We're on budget and we're on time," said Assistant Principal Joel Perkins, the on-site school representative over the construction project. "We're right on schedule. I wouldn't say we're ahead. The window is tight and we're not going to miss it."

Once the Alpine School District settled on the budget for the project -- $42 million -- they have not had to change any plans.

Perkins said there is a delicate dance going on between getting the new building ready, moving things to the new building, and the beginning of demolition on the old building.

The offices of the school are to be moved and operational by June 1. This timing means between the last day of school, May 29, and June 1, there are numerous volunteers from the community, school district and Orem High who will be carrying furniture, electronics and other office items from one building to the other.
