New Pilgrim Baptist Church is relocating to Kearns
(Taylorsville/Kearns Journal) Jan. 31 marked the groundbreaking ceremony at the new site for New Pilgrim Baptist Church, located at 5133 South Heath Ave. in Kearns. The ceremony was well attended by many local dignitaries and members of the congregation.
NPBC was founded in 1922 as an African-American congregation. The church prides itself in being established as a multi-cultural congregation now serving more than 500 members from 30 nations, with services in both English and Spanish. Corey J. Hodges serves as the senior pastor.
The church has been at its current 6196 South Redwood Rd. location since 1998. The present building will be demolished to make way for a UDOT road expansion project.
"We are excited about the opportunity to be in the middle of a neighborhood instead of a business zoning area like our Redwood Road location," Senior Pastor Assistant Achieng' Reggy said. "We've outgrown our space, and our infrastructure is aging."
Construction is set to begin later this year, with the congregation expecting to move into their new location sometime in 2011.
