Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors Elects New Leadership for 2011

The Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors (NWAOR) has chosen Bob Hill, Shawn Janke, Christy Vail, Sonya Smithing, and Lene’ Balster as the new leadership for the 1,900 member realtor group.

Their tenure will officially begin January 1, 2011. These individuals were elected by both the NWAOR membership and current board of directors for their exceptional commitment to helping homeowners in Utah.

“I couldn’t be handing the baton over to a more capable group of individuals,” said Rick Southwick, current president of the Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors. “I’ve had a wonderful experience leading the organization through 2010, and look forward to what next year has in store for our industry.”

Bob Hill, the newly appointed president of the NWAOR for 2011, joined the realtor group in 1994 and currently owns and operates Century 21 Golden Spike Realty in Weber, Davis and Box Elder counties. Hill has served on the board of directors since 1999 as a director, and four years as treasurer.

Prior to that, Hill worked 22 years in the banking industry and been inducted into the Weber State University athletic hall of fame for his dedication and involvement in WSU track and field. Today, Hill and his wife Shelly reside in South Ogden and are the parents of four daughters and two sons.

“Bob has been an anchor to NWAOR for many years,” said Mike Ostermiller, CEO of the Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors. “He brings a well-rounded professional background, strong leadership experience within NWAOR, and a commitment to the community. That is the exact formula we hope for in a leader. We are proud to have him serve as the 2011 president.”

Shawn Janke will serve as the president elect, and as such, will assist the president in several capacities including attending all board of directors meetings, acting as a member of the executive committee, and appointing committee chairs. Janke graduated from Weber State University and has worked as a realtor for 18 years. During his career he has served the Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors in several other capacities.

Christy Vail, chosen as the first vice president, has been in the real estate industry since 1988. In that time, she has served in various leadership positions including the NWAOR director and state governor of the Women’s Council of Realtors. As first vice president, she will be responsible for appointing committee co-chairs for the following year and serving on both the executive committee and the budget and finance committees.

Sonya Smithing, a 15-year member of the NWAOR, is to become the second vice president. In that position, she will assist the president and act as a liaison with committee chairmen and member firms. Smithing presently serves on the NWAOR board of directors.

Lene’ Balster will act as the treasurer for the NWAOR. Her responsibilities will include reviewing the budget with finance committee members, maintaining the balance sheet and income statement, and presenting financial conditions to the board of directors. She currently works as a realtor in South Ogden.
