Officials break ground for Kearns skate park
(Taylorsville/Kearns Journal) The irony was not lost on Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon as he helped break ground for the Kearns skate park on Sept. 28. Standing near the Utah Olympic Oval that will border the park, Corroon pointed out that “some of the greatest athletes skate on ice over there, and many other great athletes will skate on concrete here.”
The groundbreaking ceremony for the 30,000 square foot skate park marked the start of just one phase of the Oquirrh Park development going on just north of both the Oval and the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center. A field that has been used for soccer is being developed into the skate park, but new soccer fields along with expanded parking and other playing fields are to be constructed to the west of the current park area.
Corroon joined a host of other officials in praising the community of Kearns and the cooperative efforts of a number of entities for bringing the skate park concept to fruition.
