Open houses set for Wasatch canyons plan

(Salt Lake Tribune) Four public meetings are scheduled this week for Wasatch Canyons Tomorrow, the next step in updating Salt Lake County's master plan for the Wasatch canyons.

Organized by Envision Utah, the open houses will allow residents to comment on strategies ranging from watershed and recreation to transportation.

Officials say the workshops will provide the best opportunity in decades for Utahns to help define what the canyons will be like in 20 years. More than 10,000 suggestions were received during the previous two rounds of public meetings in May and November.

"By making wise decisions today and planning for tomorrow, we -- and our children and grandchildren -- will continue to enjoy the remarkable Wasatch canyons well into the future," Alan Matheson, executive director of Envision Utah, said in a statement. "Wasatch Canyons Tomorrow is the vehicle to do this."

Two meetings tonight (in Salt Lake City and Sandy) and two on Wednesday (in Millcreek and Sandy) are slated from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Tonight's sessions are in the commons area of West High and Sandy's Canyons School District auditorium. Wednesday's meetings are at Skyline High's cafeteria and Sandy City Hall's second-floor multipurpose room.

Those who miss the workshops may participate online through an interactive and educational survey that starts Thursday.
