Park City pegs worker housing as as low as $228K

(Park Record) City Hall has proposed to sell units in the Snow Creek Cottages work force housing development for between $228,000 and $264,000, a memo sent to Mayor Dana Williams and the Park City Council this week indicates.

The memo pegs two-bedroom units at the lower figure and three-bedroom units at the $264,000. Rhoda Stauffer, who is assigned to City Hall's housing programs, wrote the memo and it was distributed in anticipation of a Thursday City Council meeting.

The prices have not been widely discussed, and it was not clear whether the numbers had been made public prior to the release of the memo.

According to the Satuffer memo, the less expensive of the units will be deemed affordable to someone earning approximately $60,000 annually, or 60 percent of the area median income. The more expensive ones will be affordable to someone earning approximately $70,000 each year, the memo said.

The Snow Creek Cottages development is under construction outside the Park Avenue police station. City Hall is building the development. It is the most ambitious brick-and-mortar work force project the municipal government has undertaken. The construction crews are putting up 10 three-bedroom units and three two-bedroom units.

City Hall is preparing to start the application process for the units, and staffers expect there will be more people interested than units available. A lottery is planned for the housing.
