Ribbon is cut on new East Millcreek Fire Station
(Millcreek Journal) A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the new East Millcreek Fire Station on Feb. 17, officially opening the facility and replacing the oldest and smallest station the Unified Fire Authority has recently operated out of. The new station is located at 1911 East 3300 South in Canyon Rim.
Unified Fire Authority Captain Clint Smith, Deputy Chief Michael Jensen and Salt Lake Valley Service Area District Board Chair Roy Tingey expressed their thanks and excitement about the new 12,400-square-foot building.
Mayor Peter Corroon, Councilwoman Jani Iwamoto, Canyon Rim Citizen's Association Chair Aimee McConkie and East Mill Creek Community Council Chair Blake Keithley expressed gratitude to those who helped with construction, then helped cut the ribbon.
Corroon thanked Zwick Construction for completing the project on time and within the budget of $5 million. Construction of the new station began last April.
"I am grateful we finished this station and are able to provide a great service to our community," Corroon said.
The old 2,500-square-foot station located on Evergreen Avenue was built about 50 years ago and was incapable of housing the specialized equipment used by Unified Fire Authority today.
