Senior center to be built next to health buildng in Clearfield

Farmington(Salt Lake Tribune) » Attaching a senior center to the under-construction Davis County Health Department building in Clearfield will cost nearly half a million less than anticipated, say county officials.

"I'm smiling; this is good," said Davis County Health Director Lewis Garrett about the final figure, which is less than $2.1 million. "It was a nice amount, almost $500,000 less than the estimates."

The Davis County Commission approved a contract with Provo-based Miller General Contractors, LLC, to build a 14,831-square-foot senior center connected to the health administration building.

The administrative building is currently being built and is expected to be ready for occupation in November. Construction on the senior facility could begin in May and should be completed in November, too.

The two buildings will share a heating and cooling system. The administrative building was designed to allow for a connected senior facility in the future, but those plans sped up when the construction climate yielded lower costs, officials have said.

Construction of the three-story administrative building will cost $5.2 million, more than $3 million less than originally anticipated. The buildings are located across State Street from the Clearfield City Hall.
