Showcase winner now Green Home of the Year

(Park Record) It's not quite the Huntsman compound in Deer Valley, but there's another spectacular home for sale garnering media.

GrandView Lodge at The Colony was the 2009 "Best of Show" winner at the Park City Area Showcase of Homes and was recently awarded "Green Build Home of the Year" for all the state by the Utah Home Builders Association.

Designed by Scott Jaffa and built by his Jaffa Group Design Build, GrandView Lodge is 9,683 square feet and priced at $8.495 million.

It also happens to be No. 8 on CNBC's recent list of "America's Most Impressive Ski Homes" (sharing the top 10 with another Park City home as well).

Jaffa said the Green Build Home award is about more than "greenness," although it must meet the association's criteria to qualify. It recognizes high-quality design and overall aesthetic appeal in addition to green characteristics.

The home was built to sell after completion so it is not a custom design for a specific buyer. That allowed Jaffa to implement more green characteristics than are normally requested in a custom home, he said.

For various reasons, once a buyer begins making requests, the ability to build green becomes more difficult. That doesn't mean GrandView Lodge is any less comfortable; it does mean that it's more energy efficient than other homes its size and will save the future owner money, he explained.
