SLCC to build media center on campus

(Deseret News) Salt Lake Community College will break ground in October for a nearly 125,000 square foot Center for New Media at the South City campus on State Street.

GSBS Architects has been selected to design the $25 million project with 105,500 square feet of newly constructed space and 17,250 square feet of renovated space. The building will house programs such as digital design, communication technology, broadcasting, entertainment arts, film, Web design, animation and music innovation, and prepare students to meet industry needs. It is expected to be completed in the summer of 2011.

"The Center for New Media will be open, collaborative, intelligent space with intersecting hubs of activity where areas of study overlap and flow together, visually, spatially and functionally," said David Brems, director of design for GSBS Architects.

The project also includes the relocation of the Salt Lake School District's Career and Technical Education program to the South City campus.
