South Salt Lake valley treatment plant to break ground

RIVERTON (Deseret News) — Local and state dignitaries will break ground Wednesday on the South Valley Sewer District's $132 million water-treatment project.

The Jordan Basin Water Reclamation Facility, 13826 S. Jordan Basin Lane (1300 West), will be a new regional wastewater-treatment facility. It will serve Riverton, South Jordan, Draper, Herriman and Bluffdale.

The facility is needed because of massive growth in the south valley. The project will also use a new system to filter water.

"We are looking at it also supplying secondary irrigation water for the entities we service," said Garland Mayne, Jordan Basin Water Reclamation Facility facilities manager.

The project is expected to be completed by spring 2012. The facility was designed by Bowens, Collins & Associates and is being constructed by PCL/Alder.
