St. George gets funds for air service
ST. GEORGE (Deseret News) — U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced Thursday a $100,000 grant to help St. George improve its air service.
The money will help support a market study and promotional campaign to attract new air carrier service in conjunction with the opening of upgraded facilities at the St. George airport in early 2011.
"Local air service provides support to local businesses and local jobs," LaHood said. "These grants will help support and sustain efforts by small communities to preserve and expand their links to the national air transportation system, connecting resident to the U.S. economy."
The grant was awarded as part of the Small Community Air Service Development Program and was one of 19 similar grants awarded totaling $6.4 million.
